Where's the quarterback? [January 18]

True freshman quarterback Peter Lalich had better mature quickly. The UVA Athletics Department announced on Thursday that four of the school’s football players will not be returning for the spring semester, including starting sophomore quarterback Jameel Sewell and starting cornerback Chris Cook. Sewell had 2,176 yards passing and 279 yards rushing this season, leading the Cavs to a 9-4 record and their first major bowl game in more than 10 years. Chris Cook did not make the trip to Florida for the Gator Bowl, as, per NCAA rules, players must pass six credit hours to be eligible for the postseason. The other players not enrolled for the spring are redshirted freshmen Darnell Carter and Chris Dalton. “Privacy laws prohibit any additional comment or release of information regarding this matter,” states the athletic department’s press release. The Daily Progress speculates that all four players won’t be around in the fall, either.

Jameel Sewell, UVA’s starting quarterback, is not enrolled for the upcoming semester.
