U.S. Marine Corps plans urban training exercise in Charlottesville for June 9

Feeling a bit fatigued? According to a press release from the U.S. Marine Corps—specifically, the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit—some lucky site in Charlottesville will host a "Realistic Urban Training" (RUT) exercise on Wednesday, June 9. The RUT is part of an 18-day training series for the unit.

Residents "can expect to see Marines, their vehicles and their equipment, and will hear the sounds of helicopter, tiltrotor aircraft and blank ammunition being fired," writes Gunnery Sgt. Bryce Piper. The training exercise has been cleared with local officials and nearby property owners; additionally, members of the USMC will canvas the area of the exercise on June 9 to further inform local residents.

So long as locals keep at least 200 yards from the action, the gunnery sergeant adds that they are "welcome to observe the training from a safe distance."
