Dumping sofas on street corner not the only choice for UVA students

In a gesture of togetherness we should all be able to endorse, UVA’s Community Relations Office has organized the "Sofa Shuffle," beginning tomorrow, Saturday, May 9. The Shuffle is open to students who live off-Grounds as well as on campus. Faculty, staff and community members may participate, too. Discarded furniture and household items will be donated to local charities, according to UVA, though the press release didn’t specify which groups. Household items must be in working condition and the furniture should not have major damage. In other words, no two-legged couches that have been propped up by a cinder block on one side.

Items will be collected May 9, 18 and 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. by Salvation Army and Habitat Store collection trucks at:

•    780 Madison Ave.
•    516 Brandon Ave.
•    Jefferson Park Avenue at Maywood Lane;
•    303 14th St. NW (St. Edwards Court)
•    1885 University Circle
•    Crossroads Apartments at the intersection of Jefferson Park and Fontaine avenues.
