More updates in the case of the human remains found on a south Albemarle farm this morning, that are likely to be Morgan Harrington, the Virginia Tech student who has been missing since October 17:

David Bass, who owns Anchorage Farm where the body was discovered this morning, told C-VILLE that in the course of checking fences this morning, in a location he arrived at via tractor, "I saw what looked like a dead deer. When I got a little closer, it didn't look like a deer skull." Bass further confirmed that clothing was found near the body, but added that Virginia State Police have asked him to not divulge further details.

Bass told C-VILLE that there is "no real history of trespassing" on his property, which county records show he has owned since 1985. He has no idea, he says, how the body got there, as the location where it is found is not accessible by car.

Meanwhile the Newsplex is reporting that in a phone call to a reporter, Morgan Harrington's mother, Gil Harrington, said the state police informed her that the remains are probably her daughter's. The State Police have a news conference scheduled for 5pm today.

ALTHOUGH it is a tragedy, an unfinished life, at least there will finally be closure for this poor girls family. If I had to choose between learning the worse, or never finding out at all, this would be the outcome i would prefer. I am so sorry to the Harrington Family

Some sick bastard got his hands on someones beautiful 20 year old child, may he rot in hell.
Julie January 26th 05:02pm
My prayers and thoughts are with Morgan's family and friends right now. I am writing this with tears in my eyes. Whoever did this horrible thing will be brought to justice.
Laura January 26th 08:31pm
I've been following this story. I was really hoping that she'd miracly come back. I am heart broken.
Andrea January 26th 09:35pm
Morgan can now be returned to her loved ones, where she belongs. All of that energy that was devoted to finding her, now has to be focused on finding her killer(s). Given the news reports of the very remote location of where she was found, the person(s) who put her body there probably knew this farm area very very well. I would be looking for poachers and hunters who had access and knowledge of the farm. Let's hope they were clumsy and stoopid and left clues behind that will police to their door. As long as these sick bastards are among us, we are all at risk...
carl January 27th 12:02am
The whole thing is horrible. You wonder how the killer picked this spot to put the body. The sicko obviously knows the area. Hopefully he/she left something at the scene.
Matt January 27th 03:24am
The original story states that Morgan was separated from her friends, the ones who could have been some protection for her, by stupid "no re-entry policy" of the concert promoters.

How many times have we seen some stupid policy cause separation and trajedy result?

Recall that Adam Walsh was escorted out of a Sears store with other kids and not allowed to re-enter. That stupid policy separated him from his parents.

I blame the concert folk (and Metallica) for putting her at risk.
Tcaros January 27th 03:42am
I think Morgan went out side to smoke a cigarette. When she did not get back in she walked to the parking lot and was kidnapped where her purse and phone was found. She then was taken to the remote area. Check her friends aND ALSO CHECK THE BASKETBALLL TEAM AND THE TWO MEN WHO HUNT ON THE bASS POPERTY...mAY SHE REST IN PEACE....
Joe January 27th 07:25am
I have yet to hear anyone mention the following and it can be quite chilling to read, but here it goes.....I wonder if the man that found Morgan, David Bass is a Metallica fan.......need I say more? If you think this whole thing through, it can be quite intriguing. Would love to hear your thoughts.
Dan Ragusa January 27th 12:15pm
who helped the farmer cut the hay in august. 750 acrs a lot for l My heart and prayers are with the Family.
betty January 27th 12:39pm
Really strange that this part of the farm was not accessible by car, so that means that she walked of her own free will and killed there, or murdered somewhere else and carried there. If that is the case, it probably took more than 1 person to do that. There is also the possibility that she was drugged and overdosed and the murderer carried her there, being familiar with the lay of the land, and knowing that the hay would grow up around her, making the body hard to find. I feel like the murderer must have known what they were doing when they dumped her there like a piece of trash. May God help you and drive you insane until you have to come foreward. This beautiful girl and her family did not deserve this and by God you will be discovered. DNA is a great tool so don't think you have gotten away with this because more than likely you have not. Bones always tell a story, pervert. So, my advise to you or yours is to turn yourself in because sooner than later, Morgan will tell her story, scumbag.

eAnd yes, I agree with you Dan, Mr Bass could be covering his ass and if not him, one of his own.
sharon January 28th 06:56pm
Tcoros, I don't agree with the suggestion that Metallica should be blamed for anything, they are performers and can't keep up with everyone in their audience. They are a heavy metal band, not babysitters.
I do, however, agree with the concert sponsers being to blame. Why didn't they let her at least call her friends and speak to them and verify there was a ticket stub and have her friends bring the ticket stub?
I know from experience that any concert I have ever atttended, I put the stub in a pocket or my cigarette case for easy access should I be asked. Ofcourse my understanding is Morgan had waited for this concert for months so maybe the excitement of it all made her forget to ask her friends for the stub upon her departure from them.
Also, she did get turned around and wound up outside which she may have not anticipated. But still, why did she leave the concert without verifying from her friends that there was a ticket stub? Very strange.
I think I read that she tried several times to re-enter so it seems to me that concert gatekeepers would have let her call her friends and verify the ticket stub and bring it to the door. Unless, ofcourse, they couldn't be bothered with the inconvience of it all. If that is the case, they are just as responsible for her death in my opinion. They also had her keys I read so why in the hell did they leave her out on the limb like that. Some friends, I say!! Friends like that, who needs enemies.
I bet they regret that decision now but too little, too late. Morgan is gone now. Such a tragedy and such a waste for some young, beautiful, girl attending a concert and losing her life in the process.
Sharon January 29th 07:51pm
It seems really illogical (and terrible) to me that some people here are jumping to the conclusion that David Bass was somehow involved in Morgan Harrington's death.

Supposing he was, why would he call police to report finding her remains on his own property?!? A criminal that stupid would have been caught already. This isn't an episode of Law and Order.
JustSaying January 29th 09:40pm
Stranger things have happened and in a murder investigation, anything is possible. Criminals can be stupid, that is why they are criminals to begin with.
In answer to your question, murderers have called to report remains of their victims numerous times in order to take the heat off of them should they be guilty. I'm JUST SAYING and not accusing him but in a criminal investigation all pieces are observed to put together the complete puzzle. Because of this, I'm sure the authorities have thought about the same thing and cleared him by now of any wrongdoing.
Not Law and Order, CSI or any television show but actual reality investigation demands they
look a all the circumstances/clues surrounding it in order to elimate insufficient evidence and potential suspects, should there be any.
Sharon January 30th 11:18am
I feel for Morgan and her family. She should not have been murdered because she decided to leave this concert.

Women are targeted everyday in this country. They seem to be the number 1 prey. They are obducted and murdered from Wal-Mart parking lots, Target parking lots, ATM's, car jackings and where ever else the murderer/murderers decide
to obduct them from.

This is all from no fault of their own but for some pervert, murderer/murders, rapist, that wants to get their thrill on.

I feel backgrounds of this type of individual should be examined more closely. Family's of the murderer/murderers will protect, turn a blind eye, and proclaim... one of my own could never do such a thing but in reality, they do. Family's and friends should pay more attention to their behavior. These type of individuals are deviant by nature, uncaring for life, and just plain mean and most of the time, target women. They also mistreat and kill animals from an early age.

Women have instinct and common sense is the key, if something feels wrong, 9 out of 10 times it is. Sometimes, however, there is no time to think before you are grabbed and taken away, never to return. Most of the time, it is by murderous/deviant men.

There are circumstances when women abduct, but very rarely.

So, what is a woman to do? I suggest, taking martial art classes, learning how to defend yourself against these perverts, carry maze, and hit the panic button on your auto key to draw attention.

I know, this is not always applicable depending on the situation, especially if a pervert has a knife to your throat or a gun to your head. But, fight for your life, because if they take you to a second location, your life is as good as over. This is a well known fact. Don't be taken in by Jekell and Hyde, they may seem nice and trustworthy but in the end will snuff out your life as easy as blowing out a candle.

Murderers/rapists are always going to be and that is not always a death sentence, especially if a woman is prepared and also aware that it can happen to you or anyone of us. Always be prepared to be obducted because you never know when it will become a reality. One never knows who or when the next victim will be. The numbers of women losing their lives to men increase more and more everyday. (Even in domestic situations)

Given the above circumstances, would you rather chance it and possibly live or die. For me, I would fight for my life because if given the chance to die in a Wal-Mart parking lot or some remote location where my body would not be found for months or maybe never, I would chose Wal-Mart. (but that is just me)

I would just like to comment on the Morgan Harrington murder. I recently read the latest C-ville article and saw an aerial picture of the farm which points out where her remains were found. Two things struck me: one, the State police detective in the article is pleading for locals that know the area to come forward and "educate the police". First of all, maybe the state police could educate us a lot more of what happend to morgan that night. Was she tied up when you examened the remains? Were there any bone fractures? What was on her clothing. Were there blood stains? Have you asked Mr. Bass, the owner of the farm, what time he normally goes to bed. Does he or his wife take sleep meds that would put them in a deep sleep where they couldn't hear screaming? I'm not even educated in criminal justice, I have a degree in Marine Biology, but I am a scientist and the only way you will solve this crime is scientifically and hopefully somebody in the area will talk. Secondly, from the aerial picture in the C-Ville that points out where she was found there are a lot of woods, also, I don't see any "barbed wire" fences and bridges as have been reported. The public knows so little of this case. In the picture I see a clear path to where she was found. Somethin ain't stirring the coffee here and it's pissing me off because the Harrington's will never get to spend Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any damn holiday with there young, 20 year old daughter that had the rest of her life ahead of her. It is a shame and it makes me cry, her friends left her and abandoned her, who would leave their friend? Her friends need to be questioned. All kinds of questions have been raised about her keys and where did her car end up? Mr. Bass seems to me to be hiding something, I just don't get a good feeling about him either or the JPJ staff or Morgan's so called "friends". God bless the Harrington's and every night before I go to bed I look up and tell Morgan to look for my yelllow labs that have passed and they will give her a big hug. May God have his blessing on the people trying to find Morgan's killer and heal the Harrington's and this area in mourning.
Concerned February 14th 06:08pm
Concerned,
I agree with you 100%. I feel like alot of shady stuff has happened here. I also feel that alot of questions have not been answered in this case. The time frame is off a little, along with her keys being with her friends. Why didnt they bring them to her, why did she leave them with her friends in the first place? And Mr Bass is another question, indeed. I'm not saying he is responsible but someone knows where his farm is, either by association or maybe word of mouth around the area. Who knows? Her "so called friends" are also an issue. Why did they leave her out on a limb like that? Some friends, did they drive her to the concert? Is that why they had her keys? Well, she must have really trusted them to drive her, if that happened. And they turned around and didn't even take her keys to her and inable her to drive home or at least wait safe in her own car. Very un-nerving, isn't it? Like I said before, with friends like that, who needs enemies, right? Poor Morgan didn't stand a chance that night, she had no protection from her friends or the JPJ staff (who turned her away without her ticket stub) and should have let her contact her friends somehow to either get the ticket stub or atleast her keys!! My God, this was all just ridiculous as far as I'm concerned and it cost Morgan her life in the process.
Sharon March 5th 06:03pm
Hey, a concert is not worth losing your life over and never should be. Metallica and the boys aren't worth all that....good music is not worth a life, if you know what I mean. If people cannot attend a concert to enjoy their band of choice without the possiblility of losing their life, then it's time to change rules and regulations for concert goers. That means, sponsers need to use more responsiblity because they are in fact in charge of everyone in that concert arena. Don't turn them away without a ticket stub, infact, they should create a new rule for such things. They should keep in mind that concert crowds party on the way to the concert, misplace their stub after going inside, handing it off to others, etc. DON'T TURN THEM AWAY!!!! Instead, carbon copy those tickets, put them on a computer and check them at the door with a hand held computer of sorts, is someone should get lost, locked out, whatever. Hey, it's only a suggestion but someone needs to look out for the concert goers so why not the gatekeepers so damn set on guarding the doors. The band should be responsible also, they need to talk up and ask the sponsers to protect their fans.

Afterall, concert tickets aren't cheap so the bands should take some responsiblity as well. They never fail to express their opinions and express their distain for others who have downloaded their music for free. So is a human life at their concert less important?

Morgan was bleeding, probably fell outside the concert. Her chin was cut and did anyone try to help her, see what happened, etc. Only in passing, but nobody seriously persued it.

Someone should have called 911 reported it and maybe had the police shown up, she might have been saved. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN NOW, DID IT??? Really wish someone would have acted on what they saw, had they seen her bleeding. People just dont' want to get involved anymore and why not? It would have only taken an anoymous phone call to 911 afterall, to save her life.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda, is that what you are thinking now? As well you should!!
Sharon March 17th 10:30pm
So, it's been a while now since I posted but yes, I'm still here and mad as hell!! Morgan's parents have had her memorial and laid her to rest but I'm sure that does not make their pain any less. Morgan wanted to be a teacher and was an advocate for children's rights. So, who at that concert was an advocate for Morgan's rights?? Nobody as I can see and it's a shame that a 20 year old precious woman should have lost her life at a rock concert with so many people around that could have saved her. Alot of cowards at that concert that night, I guess, not wanting to be involved makes them that. Heroes get involved, so I guess there were no heroes that night. Morgan, rest in peace sweet girl, too bad I wasn't there that night, I get involved and would have loved to have the opportunity to save you, unlike the rest of the cowards there.
