The candidates are pushing to the finish line. According to the financial disclosure reports due yesterday, Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell began the month of October with $4.5 million to spend, compared to $2.7 million for Democratic candidate Creigh Deeds.
In September, Deeds raised $3.5 million and spent $5.1 million, with most of that money going to radio and TV ads. McDonnell, on the other hand, raised $3.8 million last month and he, too, spent $5.1 million, mostly on TV and radio ads.
Locally, in the House of Delegates race for the 57th District, Democratic incumbent David Toscano raised $15,739 and spent $33,311 ending with a balance of $94,161.
Independent challenger Robert Brandon Smith III appears not to have raised nor spent any money during the month of September.
For the 58th District, Republican Incumbent Rob Bell has raised $43,735 in September and he has spent $83,011, ending with a $530,975 balance.
Democratic challenger Cynthia Neff raised $39,705 and spent $13,434, with an ending balance of $109,986.
