For as lovely an article as this is, you don't begin to describe Peter's generosity of spirit and his depth of soul. Though I practice as a physician rather than an architect, my friendship with Peter shaped a significant part of my worldview. Walking and talking along Nassau Street, I was treated to an entirely new and richer view of my college environment. Small architectural details that had escaped my notice were highlighted in bright detail, alive with new possibility. Peter's arrival in Charlottesville as a visiting professor brought great fun as well as joyful exploration and unbridled curiosity to the students of the architecture school, and marvelously, it was contagious! Then and now, Peter's unabashed exuberant curiosity extends far beyond the walls of architecture to so many other areas... to stewardship, to ritual, to cooking... the whole of life really. For me, the discourse in the Rotunda was a communion was mythology, maybe even with spirit. It is that 'thought-fulness', combined with his expansive joie de vivre that makes Peter an incredible role model for people on any journey of exploration.
