Brick Watch! Archives
by Caite White
by Caite White, February 19th, 2009 10:35am

Dear mydowntownmall.com,

We both know what you're doing. Brick Watch has ignored it for some time now, but it's just gone on long enough. We have to say something.

You're copying us. There's no denying it. We've got the evidence:

• When Brick Watch profiled a worker, well, you did the same.

• When Brick Watch took a picture of the workers having lunch at Enoteca, you did the same (and from the same angle! Shame on you!):

• When Brick Watch wrote a blog post about the snow day, you got a little crazy and added an exclamation point to inject some personality (which everyone knows Brick Watch is famous for).

• And two days ago, when Brick Watch walked block by block to document the rebricking progress for readers, we looked online yesterday and, by golly, if you hadn't done the same thing:

And so we ask you, even if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, we're tired of doing all the heavy lifting. We appreciate your obvious opinion that Brick Watch has all the bright ideas when it comes to blogging, and we assure you, we have an arsenal filled with many more.

Now that the cat's out of the bag, we're curious to see what you'll come up with on your own. In fact, consider that a challenge.

Fondly,

Brick Watch

P.S. Thanks for not copying our brick cozy. That shit's ours.

You need a catch phrase to shout (or type in all caps) when you call out another brick-related blog or news site. Something like "Punk'd." Or "You got served." I'd suggest "Brick'd."

It's a brick-off!

BW,
Think of it this way. You're saving the taxpayers lots of money--some of that $7 Million--by doing the blog work for the City. As if that's any consolation.

Would you do us a favor? Start criticizing the signage and the whole "my downtown mall" idea. It's really 7th grade, and so 20th Century in civic trends. Then maybe all the treacle will disappear before the bricking is done.

& keep up the good work.

You had a good argument until you used profanity. Really think about your point, and readers.
WTF February 19th, 2009 07:20pm
Ahem. WTF, was it?
Thank you for commenting! Brick Watch apologizes if we've offended you. The use of profanity was merely used as a humorous emphasis. A real kick in the pants. The one-two punch. And we feel that because the profanity was used sparingly (as in, only one time), its effect was much greater than had we used it throughout the entire post.

Nevertheless, we appreciate your faithful visits to Brick Watch and encourage more participation!

And James, Thanks for the suggestion! We're a little hesitant to pick on the city much more than we've done today (that might seem a little 7th grade ourselves), but you're right—"Walking is cool"? Eep!

i clicked on the www.mydowntownmall.com site, to see what all the fuss is about. and i hate to break it to you, but not only does it look better, but it breaks down every aspect of the mall, not just the bricks! and i found some very very cool historical video about the mall, and if anything it appears like they have access to so much more information. its a good site, i encourage anyone who reads this, to check it out.
