Louisa to Charlottesville: You gave me gangs! [January 16]
County creates preventive task force
BY C-VILLE WEEKLY WRITERS
In response to gang-related graffiti that’s been popping up around the county, the Louisa sheriff’s office announced that it has formed a gang task force and is pointing an accusing finger westward at Charlottesville, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
The seven-member task force will keep, or try to keep, gangs from getting a foothold in the county. Major Donald Lowe said that he suspects Louisa’s gang-related problems—which thus far appear to be the sum of graffiti tags—are coming from Charlottesville and Albemarle County. The sheriffs office isn’t going to sit idly by and watch that happen, said Lowe.
“We want people to know that we’re not going to put our heads in the sand waiting for this to become a problem,” he said, and then took what may be a perceived shot at Charlottesville. “We observed in growing communities that it can sneak up on you if you’re not really paying attention to it.”
So remember, next time you venture out into Louisa county, keep the red or blue Carhartts at home.
