An underground city exists within the deepest gold mine in the world, populated by an ice baron mayor, a dubious doctor, a woman who births animal parts, and other thrillingly nefarious characters. So sets the surreal scene for the Philidelphia-based Der Vorführeffekt Theatre’s new play Three Kinds of Wildness. Led by DIY diva Donna Oblongata, the company’s creative ethos is dedicated to social and environmental causes that are put into practice by using strictly salvaged and recycled materials to craft sets, props, costumes, and exquisite puppets. The troupe tours its work in artistically underserved communities and the resulting performances are a celebration of handmade resourcefulness and unabashed humanity.

Sunday 4/27. $7-10, 8pm. The Haven, 112 W. Market St. 973-1234.
